Singapore, 22 August 2014 – StarHub announced today that a mobile application (app) specially designed and created for Singapore’s senior citizens will be launched on 15 September. Called StarHub Silver App, it will provide the senior customers with an anytime, anywhere viewing proposition via their Android tablets. StarHub Silver App will offer up to 120 hours of top-rated Hokkien drama series and locally-produced Hokkien programmes from Ruyi Channel (StarHub TV Channel 852), StarHub’s self-packaged On Demand Hokkien Channel. Existing subscribers of Ruyi Channel will be able to access all titles on the App at no additional cost.
StarHub Silver App is jointly created by StarHub’s Golden Gurus, an information technology empowerment and education programme by seniors for seniors, and Lions Befrienders Service Association, a Voluntary Welfare Organisation which provides care to senior citizens. Designed with senior citizens in mind, StarHub Silver App features a simple user interface, pictorial presentations, a soothing colour scheme, and large fonts to aid reading and enable easy navigation.
At launch, 16 titles will be available on StarHub Silver App. These include hugely-popular drama series Feng Shui Family, a drama that revolves around two families turning against each other due to Feng Shui restrictions set by their ancestors, Night Market Life, narrates the life of a strong woman who has to earn a livelihood by selling food at the night market, after being betrayed by her husband, and Variety Get Together, a light-hearted variety show by renowned hosts Hu Gua, Dong Zhi Cheng and Hao Jiao Xiang Qi. On average, 10 new episodes per title will be introduced every month. Users will be able to sample the programmes with one episode per title made available for free viewing.
“In recent years, we have seen the rise in ownership of mobile devices among our senior customers, and have noticed that they are becoming more receptive toward consuming content online,” said Ms Lin Shu Fen, Head of Entertainment & SmartLife, StarHub. “Hence, with the timely launch of StarHub Silver App, our customers can look forward to catching their favourite Hokkien content at their convenience, or on-the-move.”
“StarHub Silver App is jointly developed by our Golden Gurus and senior customers from Lions Befrienders.
