CyberWay is now re-branded as StarHub Internet

3 December 1999, Singapore -- In a move to integrate CyberWay into the StarHub master brand, StarHub announced today that it has re-branded CyberWay -- the Internet service provider it acquired in January this year -- to StarHub Internet. In conjunction with this strategic business move, StarHub announced a new revolutionary free surf plan that is set to re-define the consumer Internet industry in Singapore. This free surf plan is launched under StarHub Internet’s service portfolio and will be activated on Saturday, 4 December at 9.00 a.m.

With this plan, the Singapore consumers can now surf the Internet for free. There are no registration fees, no access charges to pay and no limit to the number of hours that one can surf. The only charges consumers have to pay are the normal local telephone charges and any calls to the customer support desk which are charged at S$0.30 per minute. Anyone who is interested can get started via a free starter CD-ROM kit from StarHub Internet. All they have to do is register their contact details at the new website (www.mystarhub.com.sg  ) and the starter kit will be mailed to them.

This free surf plan is a no-frills Internet surfing plan. It does not include a POP3 email account, free disk space, and free helpdesk assistance like those of paid access packages. Customers of this plan who require a POP3 mail account can subscribe to StarHub Internet’s new Mail Plan at S$23.88 per annum (S$1.99 per month)

Mr Terry Clontz, President and CEO of StarHub said, "We see the Internet affecting everyone in some way or another. For Singapore to stake out a leadership position in Information Technology and the emerging global net economy, Singaporeans must embrace the Internet. As StarHub believes that access to information via the Internet should be made simple and easily available for everyone, we think it is timely to break the access barriers to basic Internet surfing, with the freedom to surf at no access charge."

Adds Mr Clontz, "What we are basically offering all of Singapore is a choice between free unlimited no-frills Internet surfing and feature-rich packaged Internet surfing."

So customers who prefer to have a more feature-enriched offering can choose to subscribe to StarHub Internet’s new Infinity plan at a promotional rate of S$19.95 per month from Saturday, 4 December 1999. For this single price, they can get a POP3 email account, disk space for hosting personal home pages, international roaming and unlimited calls for customer help desk assistance on top of unlimited surfing.

Said Mr Tan Tong Hai, General Manager of StarHub Internet, "There are many consumers who just want to cruise the Net without having to pay for the other features incorporated in current price plans offer.
