Singapore, 1 August 2000 -- StarHub, Singapore’s new info-communications operator, today announced its first quarter performance results for quarter ended 30 June 2000. The company’s results since its commercial launch on 1 April 2000 have surpassed the company’s expectations.


As of 30 June 2000, StarHub has achieved the following:

The customer base represented in the table above marks a significant achievement toward StarHub’s target of capturing a sizeable share of the market for Internet, mobile, IDD and corporates.


A large part of this achievement can be attributed to StarHub’s passion for introducing innovations into the market which shake up the market with its refreshing approach. This includes the:

  • Free-surf plan that revolutionised the traditional revenue model of paid internet access.    
  • Innovative pricing pillars for its mobile plans and International Calling Services, offering per-second billing, free incoming calls and a single rate 24 hours per day, 7 days a week per destination.    
  • The most extensive range of WAP applications offered in the market via StarHub’s iPower which increased from 39 applications from 1 April to 70 applications as at end June 2000. (Please see enclosed presentation materials for full listing).    
  • Extensive range of managed data services secured in the distribution rights for Concert and Arcstar Global Managed Data and Voice solutions.

When StarHub launched in April, it had promised to shake up the market by offering innovative and value solutions to its customers. Since its launch, StarHub has kept up its momentum in rolling out more innovative products and services. These included the launch of its new international budget priced service I-Call018, and announcement of its strategic partnership with Cisco Systems to offer StarHub IP.Q, Singapore’s first intelligent IP broadband network. This new service will be available to business customers from September this year. Other strategic partners that it has sealed agreements with since April, included Suntec City Developments, Parkway Group,, NetTasking and Lucent Technologies.

Striving to offer an even wider range of services and packages, StarHub will continue to explore new pursuits of co-marketing and bundling of services for business solutions.
