Half-Mark Target Achieved Within Four Months Of Operations

Singapore, 5 August 2000 -- StarHub, Singapore's new info-communications operator, signed up its 100,000th post-paid mobile subscriber today. This remarkable achievement comes barely after four months into its commercial launch. StarHub is proud to be able to achieve half of its projected sign-up of 200,000 for the first commercial year well ahead of schedule.

The 100,000th customer stepped into the StarHub Centre Shop at Cuppage Road at approximately 5pm this afternoon. The winner was greeted and welcomed personally by StarHub’s Chief Executive, Mr Terry Clontz. Mr Toh Han Wei, 25, was pleasantly surprised with the celebrations at the StarHub Centre Shop. For being the lucky 100,000th mobile subscriber, Mr Toh won a FREE lifetime mobile subscription plan, a Motorola WAP-enabled phone (v8088) and a holiday package for two to Banyan Tree Maldives.

Said Mr K.C. Lai, General Manager, Personal Infocomms, "We are very happy to be able to sign up our 100,000th post-paid mobile subscriber within such a short period. It is proof of the confidence that the astute consumers in Singapore have in us to deliver quality mobile service at the best value to our customers. It clearly shows that StarHub is the preferred info-communications choice."

StarHub had just released its first quarterly (April- June) results 3 days ago. As of 30 June 2000, it successfully signed up 79,000 post-paid mobile subscribers, which constituted about 67% of incremental mobile post-paid customers for the quarter. This can be attributed to StarHub's passion for innovations. For its post-paid plans, StarHub introduced:

  • Per second billing ($ 0.0025 per second)
  • Flat rate charge (no peak or off peak)
  • FREE incoming calls (till 31 March 2001)
