Globe-trotting subscribers can expect greater savings and convenience with 1st year connection charge waived
4 January 2001, Singapore -- StarHub Internet is pleased to announce the extension of its International Roaming service today together with iPass Inc, a premier provider of global remote Internet access services. This allows all StarHub Internet paid subscribers to enjoy additional cost-savings and convenience when accessing the Internet from the iPass global network of more than 8,000 POPs (Point of Presence) in 150 countries.
As in other StarHub Internet services, the iPass roaming charges are designed to be simple to understand and more cost effective when compared with international roaming services provided by other ISPs. Subscribers who use the iPass client software, iPassConnect, while overseas will be billed a standard connection and traffic charge. As an introductory launch offer from now until 31 December 2001, StarHub Internet will waive the connection charge.
"StarHub Internet subscribers can now have predictability and control over their Net-surfing bills, even when they are overseas. There is no monthly subscription charge for roaming or other variable traffic charges for users to grapple with," said Mr Kyong Yu, General Manager, StarHub Internet.

To use this service, subscribers travelling overseas simply need to download an iPass dialer from www.starhub.net.sg and a local phone connection to access the Internet. The dialer directs the connection to StarHub Internet through a participating ISP in that country so subscribers pay only connection and traffic charges in addition to local toll charges. They can thus avoid the inconvenience of having to sign up with a local ISP or incurring costly IDD bills to surf the Internet.
This new announcement is even more compelling for companies when used in combination with other StarHub Internet services such as CliQLink. CliQLink enables users to retrieve voice mails, fax transmissions or make and receive real-time phone calls from anywhere in the world through the Internet.
"Companies can stay in touch with their employees who travel abroad often without having to worry about costly overseas IDD bills and fluctuating Internet charges. With a StarHub Internet account and the CliQLink service, employees can enjoy unlimited Net access while remaining within easy contact with the Singapore office wherever they are in the world," added Mr Yu.
This announcement is part of StarHub Internet’s first anniversary celebrations to reward its customers for their continued support. Other rewards organised last month include a "Pick Your Desire" lucky draw with attractive prizes from Angsana Resorts and Spa and Allamanda Laguna Phuket.
The anniversary celebrations marks the culmination of the past 12 months which has been an exciting year for StarHub Internet. It scored two firsts with the introduction of free Internet access with its Surf-For-Free plan and the launch of the Infinity Plan which was and still is the most competitive Internet access plan for unlimited surfing in Singapore. StarHub Internet was also awarded the "ISP of the Year" in Internet World Asia Industry Awards 2000 and twice the winner in CNet Singapore's ‘Incredible Service Provider’ Poll conducted online in December 1999 and March 2000.
