7 March 2001, Singapore -- Leading Singapore ISP StarHub Internet today announced its partnership with Speedcast Limited, a Hong Kong-based leading satellite broadband enabler, to provide multimedia content to all StarHub Internet paid dial-up subscribers free-of-charge.

StarHub Internet’s paid customer base will be the first in Singapore to experience optimised bandwidth delivery of Speedcast’s streaming multimedia content, pending final approval from the local regulatory body. Speedcast delivers content with its satellite IP network to bypass Internet congestion and minimize packet loss that usually impacts the end users' experience.

SpeedCast Multimedia provides up to 30 channels of live, interruption-free streaming content in English, Mandarin, Korean, French, Indian and Arabic 24 hours-a-day - including Yahoo!, ChannelNewsAsia, Bloomberg Television, Fashion TV and other branded, multi-language content from world class content partners.

This assured throughput acts to reduce both data loss as well as the number of hops (network-to-network delivery) that the information needs to travel before reaching the desired subscriber's screen. Furthermore, SpeedCast Multimedia content is delivered on a multicast basis, which allows SpeedCast to serve content to millions of users without any bandwidth constraints.

"Speedcast's expertise in delivering high-quality content makes them the perfect choice for StarHub Internet in our continuing quest to provide the best value-added experience for our customers. They will soon be able to view an even wider range of global programs streamed to their desktop without the distractions of choppy frames or server disconnection," said Mr Kyong Yu, General Manager of StarHub Internet.

"SpeedCast is proud to be working with StarHub Internet to deliver world class, branded multimedia content directly to end users throughout Singapore. StarHub Internet subscribers will soon have on-line access to live financial news as well as a variety of cultural and entertainment programming directly from their PCs," commented Tom Choi, CEO, SpeedCast Ltd.

This collaboration with Speedcast is part of StarHub Internet’s focus to work with best-of-breed partners to be an Application Service-enabler, expanding beyond providing just plain Internet access services.

Other free value-added services that StarHub Internet paid subscribers enjoy include a comprehensive suite of web-based productivity tools like Calender and Tasklists in collaboration with local ASP earth9.com, and CliQFix, a personalised and automated self-help support tool which allows users to instantly fix simple, frequently occurring technical difficulties quickly.
