Singapore, 11 November 2002 – Meet Naval Base Primary School’s new kid on the block!
Tommy Pickles – still wearing his diapers – will be at the school to find out more about school life. Tommy, the star of Nickelodeon’s award-winning animated series, Rugrats, will also share his ideas about how students can expand their vocabulary when watching cartoons.
Besides Naval Base, Tommy will also visit five other primary schools. This year-end learning adventure is organised by Creative Classroom and Nickelodeon, the TV Channel just for kids (StarHub CableTV Ch 32).
At another six primary schools, Creative Classroom will be presenting another learning adventure based on a cartoon, Teamo Supremo, from the popular cable channel Disney (StarHub CableTV Ch 33).
In all, 8,000 students from 12 schools will get to watch cartoons and expand their vocabulary at the same time in this learning adventure series from Creative Classroom, a schools’ initiative from StarHub.
" As the year-end exams are over, we wanted to end the year on a high note and as Creative Classroom is always thinking of innovative ways for students to learn, we decided to have a theme around something all students love – cartoons," said Miss Vivien Chiong, Director of Corporate Communication at StarHub.
"We have had several learning adventures in primary schools this year with curriculum-related themes. There were the learning adventures on crocodiles and horses earlier in the year and the Spelling Bee competition that encourages correct spelling.
"For this year-end adventure, we wanted students to enjoy some lighter moments after the final exams and at the same time, show them how they can also learn through cartoons," added Miss Chiong.
Besides that, to get the students’ creative juices flowing, there is a writing activity after the cartoon viewing related to the key cartoon characters. The students imagine they are the heroes in the cartoon and suggest innovative ways of saving the Rugrats or Teamo Supremo’s schoolmates from a nasty problem.
Students can submit their essays via Creative Classroom’s interactive website. Twenty students with the most creative stories will win hampers from Creative Classroom, Nickelodeon and Disney Channel.
