Singapore, 20 October 2004 – Local sports fans know StarHub CableTV to be a one-stop service for sports coverage. With three dedicated sports channels on its analogue tier and a fourth channel on the digital tier, StarHub will continue to present the most comprehensive sports coverage on TV.
StarHub’s extensive sports programming content includes unprecedented coverage of exciting cricket matches on the newly launched ESPN Star Sports Cricket (Ch 95); plus StarHub CableTV’s three other dedicated sports channels - SuperSports (Ch 22), ESPN (Ch 23) and Star Sports (Ch 24) – will continue to present the ‘live’ action in major sporting events such as the Australian Open, Wimbledon, US PGA Championship, All-England Badminton Championship, Formula One, NBA, Tri-Nations Rugby, Ryder Cup, and many more.
In addition, StarHub has since September 2004 secured an improved offering of English Premier League (EPL) content and continued to broadcast up to 10 EPL matches per week, a two-fold increase from the coverage in past seasons. This is over and above other popular soccer properties such as the Italian Serie A, Spanish Primera Liga, UEFA Champions League, FA Cup, World Cup Qualifiers and the much-anticipated 2006 FIFA World CupTM.
With all the enhanced and exciting sports offerings on StarHub CableTV today, StarHub will be revising its monthly fee for its Sports Group, consisting of SuperSports, ESPN and Star Sports.
On 3 November 2004, all existing customers with a subscription to the Sports Group, except those subscribed to value packs, will have a monthly price adjustment of S$13.39 (with GST) if they sign up for a 12-month term commitment; a 15 per cent discount over the Sports Group rate of S$15.75 (with GST).
Subscribers of Action Seekers and All-Time Favourites Value Packs will also have a revised monthly subscription of $49 ($51.45 with GST) while there will be no change to the monthly subscription rate for the Ultimate Value Pack.
“StarHub remains committed to presenting the best and most comprehensive sports coverage on Singapore television, and to do so in value-for-money packages,” said Ms Sandie Lee, StarHub’s Senior Vice President, Cable TV Services. “This rate adjustment is inevitable as the costs of sports programmes have sky-rocketed in recent years. It is against this backdrop that we are unable to further subsidise the costs for acquiring sports programmes without impacting the quality of our coverage. We would like to assure our customers that the price adjustment has been worked out to best meet the needs of loyal sports fans in Singapore.”
Sports fans who are keen to subscribe to StarHub CableTV for its excellent coverage in sports can start off on a minimum monthly subscription of S$34.39 (with GST). This includes a choice of three Basic Groups as well as SuperSports, ESPN and Star Sports.
