Singapore, 4 October 2010 – Karaoke fanatics will be ecstatic to know that StarHub, together with People’s Association (PA) Active Ageing Council, will be organising one of the most exciting events of the year! In a bid to get families off their feet and spend some quality time bonding over clean, good fun, both organisations will be organising one of the biggest karaoke competitions in Singapore.
KaraOK! K-Battle, to be held at selected Community Centres (1) and will consist of four competing categories:
i. Group A Solo Category – Ages 16 to 30 years
ii. Group B Solo Category – Ages 31 to 49 years
iii. Group C Solo Category – Ages 50 years and above
iv. Group D Family Category – Consists of two or more family members, with at least one being 50 years and above.
Contest forms will be made available at all Community Clubs and on the event’s official website www.starhub.com/kbattle. Contestants simply have to fill in the forms and head to the designated Community Clubs to register in person between 9am and 11am during the audition dates. Contestants have to impress judges with their songs of choice in Mandarin and audition rounds will be based on a first come first served basis. Each category will accommodate up to 150 contestants.
Celebrity guest judges will take centre stage at the finals of KaraOK! K-Battle to determine the winners of each category. These four judges are local vocal instructor and founder of The Music Clinic Peter Tan, our local pioneer Xinyao singer Hong Shao Xuan, and active figure in our local arts scene Zheng Zhan Lun, as well as female Cantopop singer Vincy Chan who will also be the guest performer at the event. Additionally, Peter Tan, Zheng Zhan Lun and Hong Shao Xuan will be resident judges at both the auditions and semi-finals.
“At StarHub, we are proud to partner with PA to bring KaraOK! K-Battle into the heartlands. We want our communities to be active even in their golden years and building stronger ties with their families and what better way to do it than to participate in this KaraOK! K-Battle. Karaoke singing has been an unsaid national pastime and people of all ages enjoy it. We hope that through this competition, not only family ties, but also community ties will be strengthened. We would like to wish all contestants the best of luck and to enjoy themselves thoroughly in this,” said Ms Iris Wee, StarHub’s Vice President of Home Solutions.
"I'd like to teach the world to sing in perfect harmony. I'd like to hold it in my arms and keep it company…” quoted Ms Joanna Portilla, Organising Chairperson from PA Active Ageing Council. She said: “the above excerpt from a song made famous by "New Seekers" aptly conveys the objective of this Karaoke contest which is to bring everyone together through the joy of singing. This collaboration with StarHub provides a platform not only for family members young and old but also connects friends, neighbours and all who share a love for singing. With StarHub's new Karaoke channel, I am sure singing would become another tool for widening social circles and building relationships with one and all.”
Each winner for the various categories will walk away with SGD$1000 cash. The winner for Group A Solo Category will also represent Singapore in the annual TVB8 International Chinese New Talent Singing Championship held in HongKong later this year.
StarHub TV customers will be able to catch the highlights of the auditions and semi final on 17 November 2010 at 7pm on E City (StarHub TV Channel 825) and the final of this competition on 27 November 2010 at 9pm on the same channel.
