- Extends lead in HD content bringing total number of HD channels to 20 -

Singapore, 16 May 2011 – Starting 18 May 2011, StarHub TV will introduce four new channels on its platform offering something for everyone in the family. These four new channels are Syfy Universal HD (StarHub TV Channel 569), Universal Channel HD (StarHub TV Channel 560), MTVN HD (StarHub TV Channel 580) and Nick Jr (StarHub TV Channel 304). Existing StarHub TV customers will be able to enjoy a free preview of the four channels from 18 May (8am) to 31 May 2011 (1). With the introduction of three new HD channels, StarHub TV will offer 20 HD channels across various genres such as entertainment, sports and education. 

Universal Channel HD and Syfy Universal HD are part of the Universal Networks International (UNI) portfolio of channels, including DIVA Universal that offers viewers a wide spectrum of quality entertainment content. Universal Channel, the flagship channel of UNI, delivers the world’s favourite and most talked-about shows with great characters. Now available in high definition, viewers get to watch on Universal Channel HD highly acclaimed series like, ‘The Event,’ ‘Law & Order: LA’ and comedies ‘The Office’ and ‘Outsourced.’ The original science fiction and fantasy channel, Syfy Universal HD is the destination for HD quality imagination-based entertainment. Syfy fires the imagination of viewers with its supernatural, mystery and the paranormal to fantasy, action adventure and reality programming, such as ‘Haven’ and ‘Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files’. Both Syfy Universal HD and Universal Channel HD are mirror services of the linear channels. Existing Entertainment Basic Upsize Group customers with Basic HD Upsize Group will be able to enjoy the two channels at no additional charge.

MTVN HD is the world’s first global music channel to be shown in full HD glory. This channel focuses on quality HD programming. Viewers can expect to watch recorded live performances and concerts, music documentaries and original production as part of the channel’s line-up. Some icons that viewers can expect to catch on this channel are Coldplay and Katy Perry as well as recorded concerts of big-named artistes like Beyonce, Jay-Z and Kaiser Chiefs. Existing Entertainment Basic Group customers who are subscribed to the Basic HD Upsize group will be able to enjoy this channel at no additional charges.

Singapore viewers will be the first in Asia to catch Nick Jr on StarHub TV. This channel aims to reach out to pre-schoolers by engaging them with programmes that help promote their social and thinking skills. Each series is thoughtfully produced and developed around educational goals with the help of experts in the field. Some key programmes that viewers can expect are ‘Bubble Guppies’, ‘Go Diego, Go’, ‘Team Umizoomi and ‘Dora, The Explorer’. Nick Jr will be available as part of Kids Basic Upsize Group bringing the total number of channels in this group to five.
