Singapore, 19 July 2019 – In celebration of Singapore’s Bicentennial and 54th birthday, StarHub today released a music video titled #WeWillGetThere, paying homage to the early-day heroines who went beyond the call of duty and became champions of change to help shape how Singapore is today. This music video is the first in a series of inspiring real-life stories on people and organisations that embody the spirit of togetherness – regardless of race, language, religion, gender, class and ability.
Featuring a remake of 2002 National Day tune ‘We Will Get There’, the two-minute film shows students and teachers from three primary schools commemorating the life and legacy of three change makers in our history. It culminates in the unveiling of three works of art:
Committed to their causes, these women among many others are symbols of courage and selflessness. They embraced change and overcame the odds to improve people’s lives, from building schools, homes and places of worship to campaigning for social justice.
Ms Mei Cheong, Vice President of Brand & Marketing Communications, StarHub, said “The ideals behind this year’s ‘Our Singapore’ theme resonate strongly with us, that we too can be the change we want to be and build Singapore for the generations of tomorrow, today. Together, let us be pioneers of the more inclusive, caring and generous future we want to see.”
411 students and teachers from Radin Mas Primary School, Tanjong Katong Primary School and Xingnan Primary School participated in this initiative to remember Singapore’s past as well as to share the message of hope and inclusiveness.
Mr Low Min Chye, Vice-Principal (EO), Radin Mas Primary School
“Radin Mas Primary School is proud to contribute to our nation's Bicentennial through this meaningful project where our children learn to contribute actively in their journey to become active citizens and confident individuals. The filming process and rehearsals were physically demanding but I was glad to see my students rising to the challenge and coming out of the whole experience developing grit and demonstrating the indomitable Radin Mas Spirit!”
P4 student L Aishvarya Shivani at Radin Mas Primary School
“I feel very good. It was a new and fun experience for me.”
Ms Gena Tee, HOD Character & Citizenship Education, Xingnan Primary School
“It is an invaluable opportunity for our pupils to forge connections between what they have learnt in school and the real world.”
P2 student Aydin Matin Bin Mohammed at Xingnan Primary School
“I feel excited and happy to be part of the project. Although it was tiring, it was fun and I got to see the whole filming process. It was like how we prepared for our mini play in school during "Lights, Camera, Action!" as part of our XCITE curriculum.”
This year’s campaign, conceptualised with StarHub’s creative agency BLKJ, is the sixth instalment in a line of annual #SG4SG National Day work by StarHub, a Principal Partner of National Day Parade 2019. Earlier viral hits include #TogetherWeCan, an inspiring collection of Singaporeans’ stories of resilience, Majulah Moms, a heartfelt rendition of “Majulah Singapura” performed by mothers, and Home by Homes, starring talents from voluntary welfare organisations.
Ms Rowena Bhagchandani, Chief Executive Officer and Co-Founder, BLKJ said, “The Singapore Bicentennial is a wonderful stage for us to remember and honour all our founding heroes and heroines. So, we are extremely privileged to be given the opportunity to partner StarHub with The National Heritage Board and Singapore Council of Women’s Organisations to create a campaign that celebrates today’s pioneers - and hopefully, will inspire tomorrow’s too.”
