Singapore, 19 January 2022 – StarHub has been ranked the world’s most sustainable Wireless Telecommunication Service Provider, the world’s third most sustainable Telecommunications Company, and Singapore’s most sustainable telco. Overall, StarHub was placed 72nd among more than 6,900 companies globally on the 2022 Corporate Knights’ Global 100. StarHub moved up eight spots from its 80th ranking in 2021, gaining recognition for its local and global leadership in sustainable practices.

“We are honoured and humbled to be recognised as a global front runner of sustainability, reflecting a material milestone in our Sustainability journey. Climate change is an urgent reality, and we believe in acting effectively to make a meaningful difference. Being a sustainable and responsible stakeholder is a core value for us, bringing together our entire team, our customers, and our shareholders, and is at the heart of all that we do. It is embedded in our day-to-day business operations and a key prong of our DARE+ five-year transformation. Sustainability is also a cornerstone of our engagement with customers, matching their needs and working to ensure that they are protected with cyber security, data privacy, and other responsible business practices. Above all, we are a homegrown company and a homegrown brand that always seeks to give back to our community. This global recognition is a strong endorsement and spurs us to strive for bigger, better, and more, to build a more sustainable future for our customers, our community and the environment,” said Ms Veronica Lai, Chief Corporate Officer, StarHub.

In 2021, StarHub made significant strides to enhance its sustainability strategy and practices. The company set clean energy targets, adopted more renewable energy sources, and expanded on its commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in the environment. StarHub also achieved an improved Power Usage Effectiveness ratio for its technical centres, optimising energy use in its operations. On green financing, StarHub achieved its sustainability-linked loan (SLL) green performance target.

StarHub also doubled down on community support in 2021, a year adversely impacted by COVID-19. Partnering closely with non-profit organisations, such as Community Chest, Care Corner, and The Food Bank Singapore, StarHubbers pitched in with hands-on volunteer work, with the company contributing over $880,000 in tandem. These efforts reached more than 4,800 beneficiaries from underprivileged families, seniors as well as persons with disabilities. For its strong community support, StarHub was recognised with a Charity Platinum Award from Community Chest.

The impact of StarHub’s ongoing sustainability efforts were also recognised through various accolades and awards. Last year, StarHub became one of the 14 pioneer companies to earn the LowCarbonSG certification that recognises companies’ effective measurement and monitoring of their carbon footprints. For implementing good practices in environmental stewardship, StarHub in 2021 also achieved a B rating in its CDP climate change score, ahead of the industry. By providing accurate corporate disclosures and sustainability reporting, StarHub was named the Most Transparent Company in the Communications category at the Securities Investors Association (Singapore) Investors’ Choice Awards and ranked 40th out of 519 SGX-listed companies on the Singapore Governance and Transparency Index 2021.

The Global 100 announcement was made today by the Corporate Knights, a Toronto-based media and investment research company at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland. Recognised as the world’s most credible corporate sustainability ranking, the Global 100 evaluates large corporations annually, assessing up to 23 quantitative ESG key performance indicators ranging from environmental performance and clean revenue to employee well-being, diversity and inclusion, and financial management. More than 6,900 companies globally were assessed and ranked by Global 100, in the awards.
