Driving community engagement through the power of sports and digital empowerment at Kranji Recreation Centre

Singapore, 28 April 2025 – In celebration of Labour Day, StarHub brought the excitement of live cricket to Singapore’s migrant workers community with a special screening of the Indian Premier League match between the Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants at Kranji Recreation Centre on 27 April. Held in collaboration with the Ministry of Manpower’s Assurance, Care and Engagement (ACE) Group, the event brought together over 600 migrant workers for an evening of cheers, connection, and comfort.

It was also part of StarHub’s 25th anniversary celebrations, and a way to thank the migrant work community for their invaluable contributions to Singapore. For many attendees, cricket is more than a game — it’s a piece of home. The screening gave them a chance to reconnect with something familiar and enjoy it with others.

Alongside the screening, StarHub also distributed prepaid SIM cards to help workers stay connected to loved ones, and shared simple digital safety tips to help them stay protected online. As part of the event activities, Western Union, StarHub’s official cricket games broadcast sponsor, also joined in to set up a booth to promote more reliable and safer remittance practices.

“StarHub believes in the power of sports and technology to bring joy and create meaningful connections,” said Jaclyn Yeo, Head of Sustainability at StarHub. “We were glad to have been able to bring a sense of home to the migrant workers for a night. Seeing their faces light up, hearing the cheers and watching them enjoy themselves made it all the more special. Moments like these show the impact we can make when we use our strengths to uplift communities, build digital confidence, and help everyone feel more included in a connected world.”

The event also featured a Stay Cyber-Sharp booth, where migrant workers received practical tips to protect themselves from online scams. For those still building digital confidence, the booth offered clear, simple advice to help them navigate the digital world more safely. Through this initiative, StarHub hopes to continue building meaningful connections and supporting the community around us in ways that matter.
